Duisburg
Duisburg has the world’s largest inland port and is considered Europe’s number one steel location. Duisburg’s economy: port, steel and new technology
The city describes itself as Europe’s number one steel location and an international logistics center, with technology and service companies gaining ground. According to the city, logistics is its second-largest employment sector, accounting for 8.1 percent of all workers.
A 2025 study by IW Consult cited by the city sees digitalization and automation as opportunities for efficiency gains in the industry. On top of that, startport, the innovation platform of the port operator duisport, and garage DU, which matches startups with established Duisburg companies, give both sides a place to launch joint pilot projects.
Logistics and the port
duisport operates the world’s largest inland port, a trimodal hub for ship, rail and truck. The logport I site in Rheinhausen, a former Krupp steelworks, has created more than 5,000 direct jobs since 1999. Freight forwarders and warehousing firms need shipment tracking, time-slot management, driver information and reports that do not wait until the end of the month.
Steel and industrial services
thyssenkrupp Steel is headquartered in Duisburg and runs five plants here that cover every step of steelmaking; Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann operates in the south of the city. Maintenance, assembly and service companies around them deal with job documentation, inspection records and crew scheduling, all of which map well to web and mobile applications.
Hydrogen, research and startups
The Center for Fuel Cell Technology (ZBT), an affiliated institute of the University of Duisburg-Essen, researches hydrogen, fuel cells and electrolysis in Duisburg, and Fraunhofer IMS develops microelectronic circuits and systems. Software development for Duisburg: how we work together
Our office in Mülheim is about 28 km (17 miles) from downtown Duisburg, roughly a 25-minute drive. We are glad to come to you on either side of the Rhine, for whatever comes up: a kickoff, a working session with your dispatch team or maintenance crew, a progress review, training, or hardware and security installations. The coding happens at our office, and you test working builds in your own operation. If you would rather check in by video between visits, that works too.

Frequently asked questions
Do you also cover Rheinhausen, Homberg or Walsum?
Yes, gladly. We come to you in person anywhere in the city, on both sides of the Rhine. Trips to northern and western Duisburg take a little longer, but that changes nothing: for a first meeting, a workshop or hardware work, we are there on site. If a video call suits you better, we can do that as well.
Can you connect software to our transport or warehouse management system?
That depends on the interfaces your system offers, such as an API, file exports or database access. We review the documentation at the start and tell you what is feasible and how much work it involves. If an integration does not make sense, we tell you that just as clearly.
Our partners are abroad. Can we run the project in English?
Yes. Meetings, tickets and documentation can all be in English. We build applications so more languages can be added later, for example for a driver portal used by drivers from several countries.
We are a young company from Duisburg’s startup scene. Do you build MVPs?
